Foreign students in universities: where and how many

In 36 Kharkiv universities, as of January 1, 19.6 thousand foreign students are enrolled. This was reported to SQ in the Department of Education and Science of the Kharkov Regional State Administration.

Among the educational institutions where foreigners enter, there are 30 universities of III – IV accreditation level, 5 universities of I – II level of accreditation and one vocational school. Citizens of 116 countries of the world study there.

Most foreigners study at such universities:

Kharkiv National University of Karazin – 4 thousand 264 people;
Kharkov National Medical University – 3 thousand 978 people;
Kharkov National Economic University – 1 thousand 538 people;
National Pharmaceutical University – 1 thousand 504 people;
National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” – 1 thousand 190 people.

In 2016/17, about 6 thousand foreign students were accepted for 1 course in universities. The largest number of them entered the KNMU – 1 thousand 65 students, KNU of Karazin – 889 students, KNU of Radio Electronics – 612 students, HPI – 419 students, NPAU – 414 students.

Of the total contingent of foreign nationals, the largest number came from such countries:

Azerbaijan – 3 thousand 89 people (including in KhNEU studying – 700 people and in the Ukrainian State University of Railway Transport – 494 people);
Turkmenistan – 2 thousand 979 people (including in KhNEU – 488 people, HPI – 419 people, KhNU – 388 people);
Morocco – 2 thousand 258 people (including 626 in the NPAU, 376 in the medical university, and 292 in the KNURE);
India – 2 thousand 218 people (including in the medical university – 1 thousand 70 people, KhNU – 997 people);
Nigeria – 1 thousand 72 people (including in KhNU – 466 people, KhNMU – 322 people);
Uzbekistan – 793 people (including 287 in the NPAU, 261 people in the KhNMU).
