The system of biometric control at the border

Since January 1, at the checkpoints at the state border, the system for recording biometric data of foreigners and stateless persons has been fully operational.

This system was deployed by the State Border Service in pursuance of Presidential Decree No. 256 of August 30, 2017 and is one of the subsystems of the departmental automated border control system.

The launch of the system will improve security at the border crossing and improve border control systems.

Obligatory fixation of biometric data is used in accordance with a specified MFA list of 70 countries classified as a risk. The remaining foreigners – based on the results of analysis and risk assessment.

When the border crosses again, the identification process will be carried out.

During the passport control, inspectors of the State Border Guard Service check the passports of foreigners, including the Interpol bases. Then, information is read (fingerprint) with the help of readers, which is sent to the department for processing biometric data of the department. In addition, from the interdepartmental information and telecommunication system “Arkan” it enters the National System of Biometric Verification and Identification of Ukrainian Citizens, Foreigners and Stateless Persons.

Heads of states and governments of foreign countries, members of parliamentary and government delegations, persons under 18 years of age, cruise tourists, members of vehicle crews, diplomatic personnel, officials of international organizations are free from fixation of biometric data.
